Kindness.

One word, but when put into action it has a tremendous impact for the good. Just ask any of the three hundred intergenerational participants and volunteers who came out for the Color a Community of Kindness event on Saturday, May 30, in The Village Grosse Pointe.

This special community event encouraging and celebrating kindness was in partnership with Grosse Pointe Theatre, Posterity Gallery, and Main Street Grosse Pointe. The concept was inspired by the kindness of Cinderella, leading up to Grosse Pointe Theatre’s production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, running now through at the Schaap Center. Despite Cinderella’s circumstances, she focuses on hope, kindness, determination, and forgiveness, believing that everyone can make a difference by being kind.

The beautiful 10 ft. by 5 ft. “Spread Kindness” mural, designed by Posterity Gallery, gave participants the opportunity to color one of the 150 6-inch by 8-inch panels making up whimsical images from Cinderella. In addition, nearly two hundred participants colored Kindness Cards and included special messages to share with Make-A-Wish Michigan for kids battling serious illnesses. And everyone had an opportunity to share a message on a mini-Kindness Pass-it-On Card to share with someone they know or a total stranger.

This free event in The Village Grosse Pointe was open to everyone from all communities. The finished mural, which now hangs in The Village, resembles a colorful patchwork quilt and signifies what we can accomplish when we all work together to share the message of kindness.

Our heartfelt thanks to every participant and volunteer who joined us on May 30 for this meaningful art experience, and to everyone who continues to understand and demonstrate the power of kindness.

Continue to be inspired by visiting Grosse Pointe Theatre at www.gpt.org, Posterity Gallery at www.posterityartgallery.com, and The Village Main Street at www.thevillagegrossepointe.org.

Spread Kindness – pass it on.
