Welcome to Grosse Pointe Theatre Education

Grosse Pointe Theatre’s Education and Workshop Programs provide classes in varied areas of theatre development. Taught by professionals in their field, our program is open to members and non-members. Classes for 2010-11 include acting for the stage and camera, play writing and screen writing, and many technical skills related to theatre and film.

Grosse Pointe Theatre Announces Classes/Events for January, 2011

 Acting for the Stage or Screen I

Taught by professional actor Harry Burkey, Acting for the Stage or Screen I is a six-week course of basic acting. It is terrific for the beginning actor or those who need a brush-up course. With the use of video feedback, the course demonstrates that everyone is capable of performing for an audience. This class is a must for new and old alike! Class begins January 12 and runs for 6 weeks on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 PM. To register, call 313-881-4004. Master Card and Visa accepted. Registration closes on January 5, 2011. Fee: $100.00 or $75.00 for GPT members.

Playwriting – The Ten Minute Play

Award-winning playwright Kim Carney instructs and mentors students on the basics of dramatic structure, character creation and plot development as she assists them in writing their own short plays. Each student’s piece will be read aloud and discussed as it progresses, and a few of the best will be selected for presentation before an audience at GPT’s spring showcase in May, 2011. First class session is January 19 at 7:30 PM. Other sessions will be announced on first day of class. Continual feedback via internet during course. To register, call 313-881-4004. Microsoft Office 2010 Professional

Board Members and current season Directors, Producers, Stage Managers and GPT Office Staff are invited to enroll in a special class: Training for Microsoft Office 2010 Professional (includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Power Point and some other software). Classes are arranged by special appointment. Contact Harry Burkey for further information. Fee: $15.00 (Training Only) or $50.00 (includes the installation of Office 2010 on one laptop or desktop computer*).

* An additional fee is required for a home visitation.
